Choosing Wedding Invitations
61The first impression:
Ahh... The blissful day that everyone will remember .... except you. Your wedding day is supposed to be the most special day of your life, but truth is, you won't remember 1/2 of the things that everyone else will. From planning your menus, to the reception hall, the dress, the colors, and themes, it never crosses your mind that you have to send out the invitations let alone how hard it will be to choose them. When my husband and I sat down to pick out invitations we looked at hundreds of samples. Online, offline, booklets, styles, colors, themes, you name it, we looked and most of them hated.
We finally settled on a tri-fold card that served as it's own mailer, response card, and invitation all in one. It was beautiful and matched our theme, too! Here are a couple things to consider:
1. What's your theme? Are you trying to send the "super classy", "sophisticated" , "fun" , "contemporary", or "simple" message?
2. Do you have a set budget ? Larger budgets may allow for more unique ideas for invitations, such as extra colors for printing, styles, etc. A typical invitation should include the Outside envelope, the inside envelope, the invitation itself, the envelope for the return RSVP card, and the RSVP card. Most printing companies list all of these seperate and costs add up very quickly at multiples of 100 or more.
3. Can you print your own? Printing your own invitations not only save you money but could also save time when you are looking to get out mass numbers quickly. You could also go to a local fedex/kinkos and have them print them for you.
There is no way to help you choose your invitations unfortunately, but remember that there are better things to spend your nickles and dimes on. Use your budget wisely and remember that people will more likely remember your wedding for the reception, the DJ, and the food and not the invitation that landed in the garbage after the RSVP has been sent.

Thanks for the response hub, C Seskey! Good thoughts. And yeah, people do toss the wedding invitations out after they get them. I can't say I've kept any from weddings I've been invited to! Then again, after some time ALL cards get tossed...birthday, thank you's etc.
