My life as a documentary...

Everyone has a great story. A story that will tug at the heartstrings of America, or France,... or any other country for that matter. We all have the potential for that one chance to earn screen credits. How you go about it, now that's a different story.

The first step is to come up with HOW you want to market your own story. What makes it so much more important than the documentaries waiting to be made. What did you do? What struggles did you overcome? Who would want to see these struggles? How would your struggles help others ?

These questions are a part of the proposal that you'll want to create that will help you market your story to potential screen writers, or documentary specialists. Once you have a pitch, a selling point of your story, you can begin your search for someone to produce that story into a film.

A selling point example : You've been on drugs, watched your life fall down through the sewer cracks on the dirty downtown streets... you have an epiphany or turning point... someone or something comes to you and you realize that you need help... you get help... or, maybe you don't.... maybe you're beyond help..

come up with your story, write it down or have it on a tape recorder that you can send along with your pitch to potential film makers.

Film makers of documentaries are looking for new and unique views of world problems , real solutions, and compelling materials. Start small, universities, local film festival callings, etc. Network yourself and your story with the right crowd. Another option is www.craigslist.org. go to your local area, and post a request for services asking for someone who wants to create a documentary. If all else fails, writing a script and sending it to request for submissions is also a great way to go, but may take a while before someone reads your script and gets it. Sometimes, your best bet would be to start with a freelance writer who wants a good story to get published, and sealing a deal with a publisher.
